Artist Statement

My choreography is anchored in the relationship of the body to it’s psychological and emotional interior. I create conceptual portraits and relationships to raise questions about the roles we play in our private and public lives. I’m particularly concerned with the mature female perspective within a culture that focusses on youth and masculine desire. I am deeply influenced by theatre, visual art, literature and music. In my creative process I draw freely from my experiences with these other art forms as a way of questioning disciplinary boundaries and conventions. My company of excellent collaborators plays a vital role in supporting my inquiries and helping me work out responses to them.
